The Philips Series 1000 is their affordable beard trimmer production for men who dislike breaking the bank. The Dutch-origin international brand Philips never compromises with product quality as the customer cannot blame. Since primary level beard trimmer, it comes with basic beard trimming facilities without any fancy function.

What’s in the box?

Since an affordable beard trimmer kit, the Philips 1000 series does not come with plenty of accessories. But the package comes with enough attachments for a perfect beard trimming. Along with the main trimming kit, you will find the following items in the package;

  • 4 stubble and beard combs
  • A USB charging cord (no adapter)
  • Small cleaning brush
  • Warranty card
  • User manual

Features and Specifications Analysis

Again the basic Philips beard trimmer 1000 does not come with fancy features since a low-cost product.

But it features enough facilities to make perfect beard and stubble trimming and styling.

Self-sharpening blades:

Philips Norelco used their regular self-sharpening stainless steel blades in their series 1000 bt1217 trimmer.

Although a basic range trimmer, Philips did not compromise on the blade quality to retain their brand value.

You know, self-sharpening blades need less maintenance to keep the device sharper.

On the other hand, the durable stainless steel blades are skin-friendly too.

Philips Norelco used skin-friendly rounded tips on the blade to glide over the skin smoothly without hurting the skin.

Even the blades are suitable for sensitive skin since they do not cause scratching and irritation.

So, the Philips series 1000 beard trimmer is super sharp and great for comfortable beard trimming, even on very sensitive skin.

Premium battery:

Considering the battery of a battery-operated device is the first task before buying it, when it is a cordless device, then it’s mandatory.

Similarly, the Philips 1000 series beard trimmer bt1217 is a cordless device with a powerful rechargeable battery that provides up to 60 minutes of cordless performance with a full charge.

Trust me, the battery will turn you back when you think this is a cheap product.

The only downside is it takes approximately 8 hours to charge fully.

But it would not be a problem for cautious men if they charged it overnight and used it in the morning.

It is enough to bear the charge for a full month and charge it again for the next month.

#Tip: when you charge the device for the first time, I suggest you use it until the battery is completely empty. Continue to use the product until the motor almost stops running during a session. Then recharge the battery. Follow this procedure at least twice a year to retain a good battery lifespan.

User-friendly design:

Again Philips 1000 series trimmer is a basic-level beard trimmer but comes with a premium design.

The manufacturer designed the product with easy grip technology to maintain it comfortably.

The weight and size are very user-friendly to handle that fit perfectly on the grasp.

It has a rubberized grip on the rare side to hold it securely.

The intelligent design must make you feel premium with a fully black interface.

#Warning: although a premium look, the device is not waterproof. So, handle it carefully, never immerse it, and keep it away from water.

4 beard and stubble combs:

The Philips series 1000 trimming kit comes with 4 different guide combs to adjust your desired beard and stubble trimming lengths.

These provide 1mm, 2mm, 3mm, and 5mm trimming lengths for your stubble to medium-length beard trimming.

The initial two combs and the trimmer itself provide 3 different lengths of stubble looks, from .5 mm to 2mm.

The manufacturer recommends starting with the longest guide comb when you use the device for the first time, which will help you to become used to.

The longer guide combs, 3mm and 5mm are for medium-length beard styles.

#Tip: comb your beard before starting a trim to get smooth results. Always operate the device against beard growth for optimum beard trimming.

Travel lock:

What is a travel lock? A locking system that prevents automatic turning on by accidental touch or press.

Some devices turn on with a soft touch while traveling, even when in storage.

But a travel lock can prevent the device from becoming turned on without intentional operation.

The Philips beard trimmer 1000 comes with a travel lock system on the power button.

Just slide down the power button to turn off the device and then press the small travel lock button to keep the power button sticky.

Press the lock button and then slide up the power button to turn on the device.

USB charging:

Again, the Philips Trimmer Series 1000 comes with a USB charging cord.

You can charge the device from any USB port, such as a wall USB socket, your MacBook, or a USB adapter.

Since the package does not have a charging adapter, you can use any USB source.

I charged my trimmer with my mobile charging adapter, which took 8 hours for a full charge.

There is a great advantage that you do not need to buy a separate charging cord for the trimmer when the provided cord is damaged, use your mobile charging cable instead.

So, the charging replacement part is almost costless.

LED indicator:

It’s important to know the battery status of a cordless electric device.

Consequently, Norelco designed their BT1217 trimmer with a useful LED.

It is a basic LED to show the battery status when low and needs charging as well as while charging.

When the battery is almost empty, the battery status indicator lights up orange.

When the device is charging, the battery status indicator lights up green.

The indicator will help you not run out during trimming since you can have a full trim after turning the indicator warning on.

Not washable:

A downside of this beard trimming device is you can not rinse it.

When the head is stuck out, you have to clean it with the cleaning brush and not allowed to thoroughly cleaning with water.

So, it would be a bad choice if you love cleaning your trimmer with tap water.

#Tip: you can wash only the blade chamber detaching from the device and attach it to the device after fully drying it. Never attach a wet blade to the device.

Not wet/dry:

Some of the men are very fond of trimming and shaving their beards with water or making the beard softer with other softeners.

But sadly, the Philips Series 100 beard trimmer does not allow you to do so.

You must operate the beard trimming kit on completely dry hair.

So, it is maybe a downside for you if you like wet trimming.

But most of the men do not use water while trimming.

45-day money back guarantee:

The manufacturer is very confident with the production.

Therefore, Philips North America LLC offers a 45-day money-back guarantee with their Philips series 1000 trimmer.

This guarantee will cover if you purchase the product from Norelco’s authorized agents from Amazon or other retailers.

You must return the product within 45 days with the original sales receipt.

Don’t you think it is trustworthy enough? I think it is.

Note: avoid clone products or fraud selling agents.

2-year warranty:

Like other Philips usual beard trimmers or electric shavers, the Philips 1000 series trimmer comes with 2-year warranty (except cutters and combs). If you find any defects in materials or workmanship, the manufacturer will repair or replace them without any charge. Remember the warranty period starts from the actual purchase date and must be shipped within 2 years. Isn’t a 2-year warranty fabulous for such kind of inexpensive product?

Note: If your product damages by accident, misuse, abuse, or lack of reasonable care, the warranty will not cover it. You have to return the full package, including all papers.

Cleaning and Maintenance

An attached cleaning brush with the Philips Trimmer Series 1000 is used to clean the device easily. The brush will serve until the trimmer life, so you do not need to buy a cleaning brush separately. Just detach the head section and trimmer blade to clean the debris. Brush them out carefully and attach the things after cleaning thoroughly. I recommend you clean the device after every couple of uses to get sharp and efficient trimming results. Cleaning of a trimmer revives the workhorse.

Since the trimmer is not waterproof/washable, you cannot rinse it. So, you must make the device dry clean with the cleaning brush.

  • Inexpensive.
  • Great battery.
  • Good built quality.
  • 4 attachment combs.
  • Very sharp performance.
  • Travel lock and LED.
  • Easy charging with USB.
  • Great support (45-day guarantee and 2-year warranty).

  • Not allowed to wash thoroughly

This device is not for you if you want more facilities in a trimmer, including wash abilities. You better try a premium beard trimmer or multigroom kit, considering your desired feature. But it is ideal for men who want a stubble and medium-length beard trimmer at a very affordable price. I like its built quality that contains Philips brand value and does not compromise with cutting efficiency.

Philips Series 1000 vs Philips Multigroom 3000

The nearest alternative to this product is the Philips multigroom 3000. The price of both products is in a similar range. But the Philips multigroom 3000 is an all-in-one men’s grooming kit that offers more facilities. The following chart will help you to compare the Philips series 1 beard trimmer and multigroom 3000.

Is it good for head hair trimming?

You can try this trimmer on your head. But the result wouldn’t be satisfactory. Since the head hair is very thick and coarse, it needs a trimmer that features a very powerful motor drive. So, I recommend not using it on head hair and selecting a powerful motor trimmer or hair clipper that can cut hair efficiently. Using the Philips Series 1000 beard trimmer on head hair may blunt your blade or slower your device.

Can you use it on body hair?

You can trim your body hair with the Philips Norelco beard trimmer 1000. But it would not give you a close enough result since it can cut only .5mm closer. So, you need a shaver head instead. On the other hand, a beard trimmer head should not be used in the body for hygiene purposes. We recommend it to use only for the beard. There are too many body grooming kits and multigroom kits that offer body hair removals.

Is it good for ball trimming?

No, it is prohibited to use on such kinds of sensitive zones.

What is the charging volt?

Philips Norelco released their 1000 series trimmers worldwide. So, you can use a universal volt 110v-240v to charge the device. But remember not to exceed 240v.

Where can you buy the USB cord after damaging the included one?

Contact Philips customer service for a new cord by this phone number 1-800-370-6369.
