Philips Series 5000 Trimmer Review: How Efficient and Convenient is the Philips 5000 Series Trimmer?

Don’t mix the Philips Series 5000 beard trimmer with the Philips Multigroom 5000 since there are lots of differences between them. I’ll discuss the differences and advantages of both devices. The Philips Series 5000 trimmer line has been upgraded recently with a new model, that is Philips 5500. There are some compelling features in the trimmer and, on the other hand, some downsides that I will elaborate on in this article.

If you are not patient enough to read the full article or are in a hurry, you can have a quick idea by reading this overview.

  • AC adapter
  • User manual

Features and Specifications Analysis

The new Philips 5500 beard trimmer is the upgraded and updated version of the older Philips Norelco 5100 trimmer. Philips sells the new Philips beard trimmer series 5000 at a very similar price range to the older models, although the new model comes with more facilities and features.

Dual-cut Self-sharpening Blades:

Blade technology of Philips beard trimmer 5000

There is nothing new here in the Philips Series 5000 trimmer that it comes with self-sharpening blades with dual-cut technology. Because all the new generation Philips trimmers come with similar category blades. However, the self-sharpening blades are a blessing to keep the device consistently sharp until it goes dull. On the other hand, the dual-cut blade technology catches and cuts 2x more hairs than the regular blades. The dual-cut rounded-edge self-sharpening blades of the new generation Philips Series 5000 trimmer are good at trimming hairs without pulling and tugging, eliminating grooming irritations. To sum up, I found the Philips 5500 trimmer is a great built trimmer in terms of blade technology for efficient beard and hair maintenance.

Spin Zoom Wheel Technology:

Philips 5000 series trimmer zoom wheel technology

The new generation Philips Series 5000 trimmer comes with 40 trimming length settings. The trimmer has been engineered with spin zoom wheel technology to adjust the trimming lengths. As a result, it’s pretty easy to alter and get the desired and precise length for beard and hair trims. The zoom wheel adjusts the lengths with 0.2mm incremental steps for maximum precision.

3 Adjustable Guide Combs

Again, there are 3 guide combs with the new generation Philips Series 5000 trimmer. The guide combs along with the zoom wheel technology provide 40 trimming lengths from 0.4mm to 20mm. Therefore, you can maintain your stylish stubble or long beard and hair with the trimmer without any hassle. I found it’s pretty easy to attach and detach the combs for changing the trimming lengths.

Lift & Cut Technology:

Philips series 5000 beard trimmer lift and cut technology

The manufacturer designed the short guide comb (beard and stubble comb) with innovative lift and cut technology. The lift and cut angled comb catch and lift the flat laying hairs and then guide them to the double-sharpened stainless steel blades for flawless trimming. Thus the trimming results become more efficient than the general beard trimmer head.

Cordless and Corded Trimmer:

The Philips 5000 Series trimmer comes with a combo power system. To clarify, you can use the trimmer while charging and moreover, it comes with a rechargeable battery for cordless performance. Therefore, you can use the trimmer as per your need. Since a corded and cordless trimmer, there is no limitation on the runtime or the power.

Battery Life:

The Philips 5500 beard trimmer comes with a Lithium-ion rechargeable battery that takes 1 hour for a full charge. After a full charge, the trimmer provides 90 minutes of cordless runtime continuously. If I compare it with the older versions of Philips 5000 series beard trimmers, it’s 1.5x more powerful than the older versions. The improvement of the new generation Series 5000 trimmer is really compelling for users who prioritize battery backup first. In addition, there is a battery life and charging indicator in the new Philips Series 5000 trimmer. The indicator blinks white while charging, blinks orange at the last stage of battery power, and lights consistently white while using with enough power or the battery is full. Older versions also had a battery life indicator, but the new trimmer comes with a more HD LED display that you’ll find more attractive.

Washable Device:

Washable beard trimmer Philips series 5000

The Philips 5000 Series trimmer and its attachments are fully washable. Washable devices are always better for cleaning easily and maintaining better hygiene. However, it’s strictly prohibited to not use the device on wet beards/hairs while charging although a washable/waterproof device. Because it may cause electrical socks and the device may get damaged.

Replacement Parts

You have to suffer for replacing the parts of the Philips 5500 trimmer since the manufacturer is not selling any spare parts for this new trimmer at this time. Since a popular trimmer, I think Philips will start selling replacement parts very soon.

Pros

  • Self-sharpening dual-cut blades for a single pass even trim.
  • 40 trimming lengths.
  • Reliable battery.
  • The minimum trimming length is 0.2.
  • Sturdy built quality.

Cons

  • No precision trimming facility in the narrow areas
  • Very few extras (No travel bag).

Verdict

The new generation Philips 5000 Series trimmer is a premium-grade beard/hair trimmer. It’s a dedicated trimmer for stubble, beard, and hair trimming and it’s efficient enough in its duty I found. It’s not recommended for users who want more facilities along with beard/hair trimming and the multigrooming machines are best suited for them. However, the Philips 5500 is ideal for personal and professional beard and hair trimming without any major issues.

Philips Series 5000 Trimmer VS Multigroom 5000

The Philips Series 5000 trimmer is a dedicated beard and hair trimmer. It offers 40 trimming length settings for stubble, long beard, and hair maintenance with a zoom wheel technology and 3 attachment combs.

On the other hand, The Philips Multigroom 5000 is an all-in-one men’s grooming kit for head-to-toe grooming. It’s 18 pieces of men’s grooming set for different purposes. The multigroom trimmer comes with a separate extra-wide trimmer head for hair and long beard trimming. There are 13 guide combs with the multigroom package for different lengths of hair and beard trimming. There is a rotary nose trimmer and a narrow precision trimmer with the multigroom trimmer to remove unwanted nose and ear hairs and precision trimming. Both trimmers are cordless and corded supportive and washable. The dedicated trimmer provides 90 minutes of cordless performance while the multigroom trimmer provides 3-hour runtime.

Both versions come with dual-cut self-sharpening blades for even trim and effortless maintenance. I like the multigroom trimmer since it offers me some extra facilities like precision trimming and nose trimming. But the dedicated Philips 5000 trimmer is definitely a better choice for the men who look for an only beard or hair maintenance and doesn’t need extra facilities.
